History of Neon Signs:
Historically, it was only neon that was used in neon-signs, hence name "Neon-signs."
Neon is a colorless, tasteless, odorless, and inert noble gas. It makes up about a fraction of all the air that you breathe. It is the most common type of gas used for signs. It gives off a strong-red glow.
Only small amounts of neon are required to make a neon-sign. While the neon-sign fixtures use high-voltages, the power consumption is usually very low, in the milli-watts, making neon signs very energy efficient.
In most modern-neon signs, a mixture-of neon and argon is used to make a wider-spectrum of colors.
